sideTrack Entertainment presents the largest electronic music double-headliner to hit Indianapolis in recent years: Derrick Carter and Miles Maeda. Neither Derrick nor Miles have performed in Indianapolis in over a decade, which makes their uniting here in Indy an event not to be missed.
Both producers emerged from the early 90's Chicago house music scene and today are respected as some of the best DJs and producers in the world. Just trying to keep up with their schedules is like playing a real life version of "Where in the World is Carmen San Diego", but we definitely know where they'll be for the First Friday of April: FortyFiveDegrees on Mass Ave.

Born and raised in the western suburbs, Carter was into music from a young age, but during his teens Chicago's house scene sucked him in for good. Before long Carter became a strong presence in the city's underground dance scene. "When I got my driver's license at 16 my sneak ability was validated," he laughs. "I was a fierce bedroom jock for a long time. After you mix for the love of it for six or seven years, you get it pretty tight and you can take it on the road." He got by working at dance-music specialty stores like Gramaphone and gigging at parties. Later he landed regular DJ stints at Shelter, Foxy's, and Smart Bar. Though he doesn't spin much locally anymore, when he does he attracts large crowds. His sets are rooted in house, but he freely travels outside club tastes, seamlessly incorporating old-school disco, soul, jazz, and whatever else catches his fancy. Most of the time he works in Europe, where he's become a minor celebrity among dance-music aficionados. Carter says that due to his growing notoriety his production talents have been requested by pop-oriented acts. But he prefers to remain underground. Although enthused about his own Blue Cucaracha label and a new UK-based imprint he runs called Classic, he's reluctant to offer much explanation of either label's MO--other than each releases records when the mood strikes him. "I like to keep myself pretty invisible. You may think I'm somewhere, but I've already left."

Miles Maeda was one of the pioneering members of Chicago's club and rave scene back in the early 90's. Originally hailing from Hawaii, Miles' influence in the Midwest was unique and made longlasting impressions. His classical background and training at inspired him to experiment with many different styles and genres which shone forth in his prolific studio productions and live performances. This allowed him to maintain a certain artistic license that spawned projects which enriched Chicago for many years.
And his current residency at the Smartbar, celebrating 10 years from '98-'08, has also been an anchor in the new house music scene along with nights featuring Smartbar co-residents DJ Heather, DJ Colette, Kaskade, and Justin Long.
Miles' creative projects continued to blossom after his relocation to California where he created such works as 'Things Are Things' EP (Aroma), 'Tell Me Why' EP (Lowdown), and 'The New House Sound of Chicago' (Igloo/Smartbar/Shure). Current projects include the 'Frequency' EP (Lust4House), 'Love Songs' remix for Swirl People (Aroma) and 'Ravon Lady' (Bopsa).
Alongside his creative music lifestyle, Miles is also a certified yoga teacher (World Evolution Yoga), traveling the world (Travel In Love Show) to share these tools of transformation alongside his DJ shows. He also runs a DJ/music production program (DJ Evolution) to assist those wishing to cultivate a deeper creative connection to DJing and electronic music production. Now residing in Los Angeles, Miles' current endeavor is his new record label (Bopsa) which features releases by Derrick Carter,Swirl People, LawnChair Genrals & Kaskade.Jackola

With his partners DJ Colette and Josh Werner, he co-founded the 'Material' night at Shelter, a weekly event supporting and featuring new house music from '94-'96. It provided a home for artists like Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, Sneak, Diz, Cajmere, Moodymann, Herbert and many others.
He also helped develop an ambient/downtempo night, 'Atmospheric Audio Chair', along with Josh and Ken Waagner from '93-'95 which became a favorite haunt of Mixmaster Morris.

Jackola
Jackola is one of Indy's busiest DJs, infusing multiple styles of house music at bars, clubs and events across the city, as well as at his monthly residencies at Metro Nightclub, Talbott Street and Upland Brewing in the Murphy Arts Building. Voted one of Indy's Top 3 DJs in 2011 by NUVO readers, you can also catch him across Indiana and even in major cities like Denver, Chicago and Detroit. He's opened for the likes of Paul van Dyk, Derrick Carter, Above & Beyond and Donald Glaude, as well as played at large scale music festivals like Forecastle Festival, Monolith Festival, Midwest Music Summit, Oranje and Mojostock. He's also one of the founding promoters of Broad Ripple Music Fest, the founder of local music promoter OnTrack, and local house music DJ collective INHouse DJs. You never know if you'll catch him playing tech house, funky house, hip house or even into the break beats and dubstep, but one thing's for certain: he commands the dance floor to move!
